Some requirements on the ultrasonic open channel flowmeter installation

Ultrasonic flowmeters measure the level in a channel by transmitting a pulse of sound from the face of the sensor to the surface of the flow stream and measuring the time for the echo to return. The transit time corresponds to the distance between the face of the sensor and the surface of the water.
When the meter is initially set up, a predetermined distance (or level in some meters) is set. This distance is either
the zero level (no flow present) or a specific level in the flume or weir. With this initial calibration it is only
a matter of simple arithmetic to determine the liquid level. This level is then applied to either pre-programmed discharge
equations or strapping tables to output a flow rate.
Because the sensor is not in contact with the water, ultrasonic sensors have no scheduled maintenance.
Ultrasonic sensors are not affected by chemicals, grease, suspended solids, or silt in the flow stream.
Some necessary setting must be done before measurement, please be noted below:
1) Max_Dist
Refers to distance from the zero water level to sensor. After the completion of the installation,please enter the
correct empty distance here.
2) Min level and Max level must be setted based on parshall plume code.
Starting effective level and the highest effective level of the measurement of instantaneous
flow, when the liquid level is less than the effective initial level value, instantaneous flow is as 0, when the liquid
level is greater than the highest effective level value, then the corresponding flow to the highest effective level
values is as the instantaneous flow. Unit:mm.
3) The instrument probe should be installed in the upstream position 0.5m ~ 1m distance to the weir plate.
4) Blink: refers to the distance which could not be measured from the bottom of the sensor which is decided
by the characteristics of the sensor. It has been set as 30-50 cm before leaving factory.
